Frequently Asked Questions

1. What is the Foundation?

The Chesley Hospital Foundation is a registered charitable foundation established to raise funds on behalf of the South Bruce Grey Health Centre - Chesley Site.  We provide the hospital with funds for new medical equipment and facility improvements.

2.  How are funds raised?

Funds are raised through direct mail appeals, in memoriam donations and the annual CKNX Health Care Heroes Radiothon.  Donations also come in various other forms, for example; in memoriam, in honour, legacy and estate donations.

3. Does the Foundation decide which projects receive funding?

No, the Foundation does not make these decisions.  Each year, the Foundation receives a list of priority medical equipment needs from the South Bruce Grey Health Centre.  The hospital conducts a very extensive capital planning process involving physicians, patient care managers, departmental managers and key stakeholders who prioritize equipment needs for the hospital each year.  The prioritized list is reviewed with the Foundation and projects are chosen from a range of departments within the Chesley site.

4. I pay taxes - is the work of the Foundation necessary?

The government only provides funding to operate the hospital.  The full cost of new medical equipment has always been the responsibility of the hospital.  We strive to provide our specialist physicians, nurses and technologists with the best equipment to diagnose and treat patients. Medical equipment and technology is constantly changing and improving.

5. How are contributions recognized?

The Chesley Hospital Foundation is extremely grateful for our friends and supporters and we are forever indebted to those who have had such a positive impact on our community.  Donations over $1,000 are given the opportunity to have their name on a plaque on our donation wall located at the South Bruce Grey Health Centre - Chesley site.

6. Does the Foundation sell or give my name to other organizations?

No, the Foundation respects the rights and privacy of its donors.

7. If I make a memorial or a tribute gift, will the Foundation send a card to the bereaved family or person being honoured?

Yes, the Donor will receive a thank you and a tax receipt and a letter will be issued to the person or family being honoured.  The amount of the donation will remain confidential.

8.  Who do I contact if I want to run an event to benefit the hospital?

If you wish to run an event on behalf of the Foundation, please contact Pamela Cookson, Foundation Coordinator, at 519-363-2340 x 3140 or via email pcookson@sbghc.on.ca.  You must complete a third party contract before proceeding.

9.  Can I be assured that my personal information will not be sold to another organization?

Yes, safeguarding our donor's privacy has always been a top priority.  The personal information you provide us is used solely to process your donation, maintain records of all contributions and to keep you informed of the latest news and fundraising events.  All personal information is confidential.  We do not sell or trade out mailing lists.

10. I want to leave a bequest in my Will - what is the next step?

If you intend to leave a gift to the Chesley Hospital Foundation in your will, the process is fairly straightforward.  It is a matter of preparing a will or codicil and including a phrase about your intention.

11. Can I donate securities (such as stock or mutual funds) rather than cash?

Yes! The Federal Government's 2006 budget eliminated the capital gains tax you would normally pay on the profits of selling publicly listed securities, provided you donate these securities directly to a registered charity such as the Chesley Hospital Foundation.  You receive a charitable tax receipt for the full market value of the donated shares or securities.  Click here for more information on planned giving.

* The Foundation recommends that you seek professional legal, estate planning or financial advice to assist you to establish a planned gift that will meet your philanthropic interests and achieve the greatest tax benefit to you.

CKNX Healthcare Heroes Radiothon

The 18th Annual CKNX Health Care Heroes Radiothon was held Saturday October 19, 2019, airing live on CKNX am 920.  Last year's project, 4 new hospital beds for the Chesley Hospital, have been making patients more comfortable, safer and healthier for awhile now.  This year's project is a Hematology POCT Analyzer, $30,567.  The support received through the Radiothon and BBQ at the Chesley Grocery Store means the medical staff gets blood test results in a minute instead of twenty minutes after being taxied to Walkerton.

Any additional donations for future projects always are welcome.  The Chesley Foundation and Hospital thank CKNX and all who donated.  The patients, staff, volunteers and Foundation are extremely grateful for the strong community support.

COVID-19:  During this health crisis, the Foundation is working off-site; however, donations can be made to P.O. Box 40, Chesley, via canadahelps.org or at hospital registration. In response to the increased COVID-19 cases in Bruce-Grey, the next Board meeting will be a zoom meeting, Wednesday, January 13, 2021.

The on-going support for the Chesley Hospital is greatly appreciated. With their donation one supporter said, "Thanks for always treating my dad so well. I hope this helps" The Foundation wishes to extend this Thank You to all medical and support staff - take care of yourselves!

Thanks to the generosity of the Chesley community, we continue to fund a Physician Recruiter, Chenelle Monk, who is doing a great job. Even with COVID-19 physician recruitment and retention has been strengthened with a digital marketing footprint and by keeping in touch with current contacts. We also have secured ongoing locum coverage for physicians to easily check out our community. This year we have four new locum doctors in our clinic and several physicians added to our ER locum group. This winter's projects include a promotional video, 2021 rural medicine retreat, and, along with the Foundation, a green space at the hospital. This amazing community makes it enjoyable to share Chesley in the search for great candidates! For any questions, information or general inquiries Chenelle: 519-377-2441 or chenelle@physicianrecruitmentchesley.com
